Raising the bar

Steve jobs is doing to cell phone exactly what Google did to web.

All the hotmail \ yahoo users who have received enhanced service with better UI and more storage space- have no one to thank - but Gmail.

Better Mapquest? MSN Live Search ?- Thank Google-maps for that.

Windows desktop search ?Thank you Google.

The industry waits for a leader- to come and raise the bar- then all follow suit.
Its very much possible someone may produce a product better than the one they are chasing- but that alone does not make them the leader in innovation

And now lets all wait and watch the flux of smart cellphones that will flood the market trying to unthrone iPhone even before it has been launched

Everybody loves Cellphones

But I wonder why Raymond does like cellphone
While watching the reruns of Everybody Loves Raymond- it suddenly struck me that I don't remember seeing any episode with direct or indirect reference to Cellphone and or Internet

Am I mistaken? If some one remembers seeing any such episode- please let me know

Then I wonder why...
Is it because these technologies take the humour out of life?

I wonder why did Philip Rosenthal decide to keep this out.
Any idea?

Update - Feb 21st
Amit pointed out in his comment that in one episode- Robert mentions he has a cell phone (Read his comment)

And I saw another episode yesterday- where Raymond and Debra go to visit Frank and Marie in the Old age home -Raymond that time takes a call on his cellphone)

Microsoft vs. google

I discovered a different battle on going between the two

Long Bets

LongBets is a website where you make predictions and someone challenges to it
The wager is a dollar amount to be given to a charity when the bet comes to a conclusion.

Seems like Craige Mundie (CTO, MS )has made an assertion and Eric (CEO Google)has taken him on it.
See the above link for the details about the bet

Craige has made a very unlikely prediction and IMO- will loose the bet definitely
I am putting my dollar on Eric.

Comment please?

I often visit random blog sites-and not many have comments (very much like mine)

I like to observe who has comments and what have people commented
What makes people visit your blog and above all comment ?

More than often- i see the comments as: "Nice site- please see my blog too- My URL is..."

Do we blog for our self or for others?
I guess for others- else we might as well have a doc file on our desktop
Do we care if no one reads our blog?
I guess we do- but then why do most of us keep on blogging even though no one is reading?

Is anyone reading this ?
There I said it- a plea to comment...:)

Alright- Friday evening - time to go home and wrestle with my son
